Why Tattscore?
The TattScore process was developed in the United Kingdom by a small group of tattoo studio owners and event organisers.
The plan was
- To shorten and streamline the tattoo competition application and judging process
- To combat the often misconceived notion that judging is fixed by providing a standard, anonymised, secure judging system
- To create a standard of judging practice that proves you genuinely earned your show award
- To provide tattoo artists with the criteria they are being judged against before the event, and personal feedback afterwards
- To reduce waiting times for clients waiting to be judged
- To relieve some of the stress for event organisers

What is Tattscore?
TattScore is a judging process that uses a secure web app to collect entry and judging data that is collated, matched and displayed.
A dummy version of the scoring system can be made available to artists in the lead up to the event, so they understand the judging criteria.
The system automatically allocates unique entry numbers to make the artist identity as anonymous as possible.
As each entry is linked to the category automatically judging can take place in any order giving artists more time if they need it and reducing queuing and waiting time for clients.
The judges access the system through a unique secure portal and select the most appropriate descriptors for aspects of the tattoo. These descriptors are given scores in the background. These scores are not known to the judges and the descriptors are not in rank order, forcing the judge to read all and select the most appropriate. This system adds to the fairness of the judging process.
Each tattoo is automatically judged against the relevant criteria for the category of tattoo entered.
The show organsiers can then access a live feed of the top two tattoos in each category through their secure portal being able to announce the winners as soon as the judging is completed.

What else does tattscore do?
TattScore can also take away another tattoo event organiser concern by providing a digital consent, medical history and aftercare system with TattConsent.
Each local authority around the U.K. imposes different expectations regarding data collection for tattoo events. Often this involves the task of numerous copies (for the artist, client, local authority and event manager). Data security and retention can be a huge issue with paper copies as well as ensuring the client has the appropriate aftercare advice.
The TattConsent system will allow the client to complete the form online including taking any copies of identification for age verification. The system then emails the client, the artist and the organiser with a copy of the form. The client also receives aftercare advice with details of who to contact in the case of an issue or concern.
We are able to provide table talkers (with the addition of ‘Fully Booked’ and “Taking Walk Ups” on) for the clients or artist to access the form.

What is in the tattscore future?
TattScore are constantly looking at ways to support and involve the tattooing community. In the future each years winners will be invited to a showdown, hosted by the British Isles Tattoo Association, in the following January to compete for the title of U.K. Champion!
We aim to replicate this model around the world.
In the U.K. TattScore can provide a partial or complete judging service. This can be from providing the system tailored to your event and remote support, attending your event to do the nerdy stuff and supply the judging tablets, to providing a panel of judges independent to your show.
